The official UC Davis fonts — Proxima Nova, Ryman Eco and Freight Text — are for use in any branded UC Davis publications.

Using our fonts

Proxima Nova is the font we use everyday for almost everything. Proxima Nova is very flexible typeface and works well as both a headline and in the body of a document. We've provided each department templates that use the Proxima Nova typeface. For those units that have chosen not to purchase Proxima Nova, we have also provided templates that use the Arial typeface. For best results, please use the correct template based on your font collection.
Ryman Eco is a font that should be used sparingly. It works well at very large sizes so it's best for headlines.
Freight Text is a campus font that is best used in the body of a document. FOA uses this font in only a few applications.

Do I have to purchase Proxima Nova?

We would love to see Proxima Nova in all our communications, but the short answer is no. FOA operating units are not required to purchase the campus fonts. If you're interested, the Proxima Nova family of fonts can be purchased for $15.

Acquiring our fonts

Proxima Nova: UC Davis faculty and staff can obtain Proxima Nova at the UC Davis software site and search for "font."

Ryman Eco: This font is available at no charge from Ryman U.K.;

Freight Text: This font can be purchased through Adobe.

What font should I use in my email or word document?

If you haven't purchased Proxima Nova, it is permissible to use standard universal fonts. Your default font for everyday use is Arial, Helvetica or Helvetica Neue.

Type size = 9 or 10 pt. for emails and word documents.

External vendors working with UC Davis should download Ryman Eco for free, purchase Freight Text from Adobe and Proxima Nova from FontSpring. Please be aware that your project may not call for all weights and styles.

Futura, our legacy sans-serif: Futura continues to be used in permanent building and wayfinding signage and in some legacy unit logo signatures only. Please discontinue use of Futura on all campus publications.
