Federal Deadline Extended, Accessibility Progress Continues

The extra time is welcome news, but the momentum we've built across FOA is the real story

You may have seen the recent email from Provost Croughan and Chief Information and Digital Strategy Executive Aisha Jackson announcing that federal digital accessibility deadlines have been extended.

  • The new compliance deadline for UC Davis is April 26, 2027.

Your first reaction might be, "Whew! So, we can slow down?" The short answer: not really.

UCOP reaffirmed that "accessibility remains a priority," and campuses are still expected to make progress toward accessibility goals. Basically, the date has changed, but our direction hasn’t.

FOA is well on its way to accessibility compliance

Over the past year, website editors, communicators, department staff, analysts, trainers and other content contributors across the division have been sharing knowledge, attending training, improving content and helping each other solve accessibility challenges.

FOA staff have begun applying accessibility principles to their documents, forms, presentations, PDFs and other digital content. As a result, our digital information is easier for everyone to access and use.

And the extra time from the extended deadlines allows us to continue improving our content thoughtfully, rather than rushing to meet deadlines.

Our focus will be the same:

  • Make accessibility part of our everyday work.
  • Continue improving accessibility of documents and websites.
  • Support FOA content creators through training, tools and best practices.

Change is happening because of you

We'd like to thank the departmental site editors, communicators, content contributors and subject matter experts who have helped move this work forward.

Whether you've updated a website, improved a PDF, added captions to a video, fixed a form, attended a training session or shared what you've learned with a colleague, you've contributed to making our digital services more accessible.

Accessibility is a team effort and the progress we've made so far demonstrates the commitment and collaboration of people across our division.

Thank you!
